On My Mind
A few of the topics that have been occupying my mind lately. At some point, I plan on writing out my thoughts on these topics and more in longer-form essays, but until then, if any of these seem interesting to you, please reach out -- I'd love to discuss!
Philosophy’s overlap with design
I studied both philosophy and design in college and found an unexpected conversation between the subjects. The concept of medium specificity, the extended mind theory's implications for human-computer interaction, Heidegger's definition of tools, the ethics of digital design; there is a promising interplay there that constantly informs the way that I think about my craft.
Wittgenstein and AI
With Large Language Models being at the frontier of technological progress, the philosophy of language is arguably more relevant now than it has ever been. Our everyday interactions with AI chatbots resemble Wittgenstein’s language games more and more, which marks an interesting shift from the more Tractatus-style, deterministic style of traditional programming languages.
Video games and experience design
In my childhood, video games were a huge part of my life. I still love finding games that utilize the affordances of the digital medium in new and interesting ways — they can often be a unique source of inspiration for discovering effective and enjoyable interactions that can be applied to traditional applications, beyond the standard gamification techniques found in many apps today.
New possibilities of interaction with AI, beyond the chatbot
Since their popularization, interacting with large language models has largely been confined to chat interfaces. I'm interesting in thinking about ways to broaden the possibilities for interacting with these models in more embodied ways that don't require the mediation of a text interface.
